body.motion.etch unfolded at Yellow Brick in Athens as a tactile inquiry into how bodies marked by gender, memory, and labor inscribe themselves into space and how water body cartography maps the city. Carolin Müller worked with sanded aluminum cans, fragments of urban consumption, transforming them into lithographic surfaces that record movement, grease, and sound. In temporary studios across the city, Leda (Lida) Dalla, Jenny Papalampropoulou, Stella Dimitrakopoulou, Katerina Kalentzi, Eugenia Vakalopoulou, Areti Athanasopoulou, Polina Vasileiadou engaged these fragile materials through improvised gestures. As their bodies moved across the aluminum membranes, fat- and oil-based residues from their skin stuck to the metal. A lithographic etch engraved these traces and allowed Carolin to handprint the membranes onto paper. What remains are ephemeral notations, prints, echoes and residues, mapping the tension between inscription and erasure, presence and disappearance, and the body’s quiet insistence to be known. Using sonic microtraces from the materials, environments, conversations and movements of the performers, Carolin built sound compositions that accompany the video recordings taken during the process of engagement. The installation, curated in close dialogue with Vasiliki Sifostratoudaki, suggests a landscape that synergizes these different imprints of the performative processes with dialogues between the performers and the artist in residence as well as with the urban and water spaces around Nea Ionia.
